In a previous post I talked about my cousin Andre, and how he became Dipsy the Teletubbie as part of the publicity for my campaign to abolish the tv licence in the UK (see here). Well, politics is a rough business. Far more gentle was my cousin’s part as Andre the Canadian Mountie, who was the mascot of the 2CV Alaska Challenge (see here).
To raise awareness of the 2CV Alaska Challenge (which amongst other things was an attempt to raise money for charity) I dragged Andre the Canadian Mountie all over England and Wales on publicity tours. We also wrote and recorded a song for the venture, along with my sister Sue and her husband Sean. The song’s called The Ballad of Andre the Mountie. It was done in an old pig shed in the Welsh hills which had been converted into a studio. The song was recorded on the old-type magnetic tape and hasn’t survived the test of time very well. Also it was done as just one track, so all these years later I haven’t been able to do much to improve the sound quality, which is pretty awful. The link below is to an mp3 file, which should open in your media player. Oh, and The Ballad of Andre the Mountie did peak at number 78 in the Mongolian charts.
