Batshit Crazies – Part Two

Earlier this week Associated Press and Reuters purposely mistranslated a speech by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani. They made it sound as if Rouhani had insulted President Donald Trump, calling him ‘mentally retarded’. Rouhani never said that, but here’s how Trump reacted…

With regard to the present sorry state of western politics (with the American Empire in its dying days) it’s both hard to take things seriously, and to figure out what’s actually going on. The Donald ranted and raved about North Korea in a similar manner last year, but despite the threats of US military action nothing actually happened. There was similar stuff with Syria. Is it all bluff and bluster (ie, bullshit)? Likewise, last year the US Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) stated for the first time new scenarios in which nuclear threats would be considered. The NPR lists non-nuclear attacks that could constitute grounds for US nuclear retaliation. Under the new NPR, a conventional attack which results in mass casualties or targets key infrastructure could trigger a nuclear response. Once again, is this all bluff and bluster? Well, Washington is stuffed full of batshit crazies (see my previous post) and who knows what they are capable of, particularly since most of them are Christian evangelists eagerly awaiting The Rapture (this includes the likes of Mike Pompeo and John Bolton). And people in the West are told that the Iranians are a bunch of religious nutters. Ha!

One thing is fairly certain: if America starts a war with Iran it will be taking on a formidable adversary, an adversary that has even more formidable allies. There’s no way that America can win a conventional war against Iran; but America has recently stated that it will launch first use nuclear weapons, particularly in a conventional conflict that it can’t win. Have I mentioned batshit crazies..? If America uses nuclear weapons against Iran all bets are off the table. We can only hope that it’s just all more bluff and bluster from a dying Empire, an Empire absolutely soaked in blood and ruled by some of the most evil people who have ever walked this planet.

This brings me on to Dmitri Shostakovich, and in particular his Symphony No.8, written in 1943 during the height of the bloody fighting between the Russians and the Germans. Symphony No.8 is all about war and the fear of war and seems quite apt now in 2019. Do we ever learn..?

France’s public auditor on Tuesday warned that the country’s debt level, which is hovering at close to 100 percent, was “worrying” and urged the government to “control” spending.
France’s debt-to-GDP ratio is set to reach 98.9 percent this year, bucking the downward trend seen in most other eurozone countries after President Emmanuel Macron loosened the country’s purse strings to try end months of often violent “yellow vest” protests.
