The statistics on this page were given by the The Home Secretary on 23rd October 1995 in response to a House of Commons written question by Mildred Gordon MP.
Ms Gordon asked what were the number of fine defaulters for non-payment of the television licence received in prison between 1991 and 1994, by age, gender, ethnic origin, sentence length imposed and average sentence length actually served, for the years 1991-1994.
The average time imposed was 4 days for males and 3 days for females. The average time served was 11 days for males and 9 days for females.
